My dad thought it would be nice if we took a drive around the island today. The main area we were going to explore was Kailua just because we don't really go there often so it was kind of a mini adventure.

We didn't really know where we were going. My mom said she wanted to see what Lanikai Beach looked like. As we figured out how to get there, we saw some shops that started to look familiar. I remembered a shave ice place that we visited when my cousin from Boston was here. There were a lot of people who looked liked tourists in the area. When we drove past the beach, we were surprised to see how many people were there. A lot of the them were in large groups, sitting on the beach.
We drove around the area and saw a lot of big houses. We eventually found our way out of Kailua and ended up in Kaneohe. We drove past Windward Mall. It was weird seeing the mall parking lot so empty. We then drove around Kaneohe Bay.
We saw the Heeia Fishpond. Maybe when things get back to normal, we can actually stop to take a look at it. It looked really cool.
We then took our usual route like we were going to my great grandma's house in Kaaawa. But we weren't going to stop there because my dad said, just in case, we didn't want to get her sick.
We saw a bunch of cows at Kualoa. We also saw a lot of people fishing along the beach. We drove past Hauula and into Kahuku. One of the ranches had a lot of horses with a lot of poo. It smelled pretty bad. We drove up to Laie Point to take a look from our car. There were a lot of cars up there.
We drove past the big Kahuku windmills. They're pretty impressive looking but I know a lot of people in the community don't want them there.
After we drove a little past Turtle Bay, the traffic stopped. At first we thought maybe there were a lot of people trying to get to the beach but the cars didn't move for a long time. We then saw an ambulance come from behind us. My mom could see a little bit in front and saw that there were two ambulances and a police car blocking the road. We waited for a while. I got irritated. My mom said we should be glad that we're not the ones injured up front and all we have to deal with is waiting. We started to see some cars up front turning around. One of the cars was driving slow telling everyone to turn around because it was going to take hours to clear the road. So we turned around and drove back towards Kaaawa. We stopped by MacDonald's in Temple Valley so we could eat dinner as we drove home.
When we got home, my mom looked up the accident. Hawaii News Now had a short article but it didn't say much. While looking that up, my mom also found another article that said there was a hostage situation in Kailua earlier in the day. If we had gotten into Kailua earlier, we might have gotten stuck in traffic there too.
