How did Veterans Day start? According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, it goes back to World War I. The official end of World War I was on June 28, 1919 when the Treaty of Versailles was signed. But fighting stopped on November 11, 1918 at 11am. This is the reason why we honor veterans on November 11.

Because of COVID-19 this year, there were less events to honor veterans. A lot of veterans homes didn't allow visitors. Some cities had small parades without crowds watching on the streets.
Here in Hawaii, the veterans cemeteries in Kaneohe and Punchbowl both cancelled their annual ceremonies. I have relatives at both cemeteries. My mom said, we'll go to take flowers closer to Thanksgiving this year.
