Comic Con at Home

Writer's picture: PaigePaige

Here's a cool thing that's happened because of the pandemic. Well, cool at least for me.

The San Diego Comic Con was cancelled but they moved everything online this year.

They have a virtual exhibit hall. They have a map of where I guess companies would have had a booth. But when you click on the company on the map now, it'll take you to the company's website. They have companies like Mattel, Hasbro, Lego and LucasFilms.

There are also a lot of panels that we can watch live or recorded on YouTube. Today, there seemed to be a lot of panels about kids and learning with comics. My mom and I watched one called New Kids Comics from Eisner Award Publishers.

Didn't know these authors but I think I'll look them up now. They were Jerry Craft (Class Act, New Kid), Faith Erin Hicks (One Year at Ellsmere), Robin Ha (Almost American Girl), Derick Brooks (Bright Family), and Jonathan Hill (Odessa)

Some panels that I want to see this week:

  • Crunchyroll Industry Panel (Crunchyroll is a streaming service for anime)

  • Cartoon Network Studios: The Art of Storyboarding

  • Raina and Robin in Conversation. (Raina Telgemeier - author and illustrator, Guts) and Robin Ha - author and illustrator, Almost American Girl)

  • Harryhausen 100: Into the Ray Harryhausen Archive (My mom says he's a very famous stop-motion animator)

  • Zoom to Xadia: The Dragon Prince

I also want to see the Will Eisner awards ceremony. Here are this year's nominees for Best Publication for Kids. (I've read Dog Man and Guts.)
