According to HolidayInsights.com, Confucius Day is celebrated on September 29. Confucius was an early Chinese philosopher. When I did a search to find more information about Confucius Day, I found a Wikipedia article on Confucius' Birthday. It said that it "falls on the 25th day of the eighth lunar month of the Chinese calendar" and it's celebrated in Taiwan on September 28 as "Teacher's Day." Not sure if Confucius Day is separate from Confucius' Birthday. Whatever it is, my post today is about Confucius.

According to a Kids Encyclopedia, he was born in 551 B.C. He lived during a time when there was a lot of wars in China and he wanted to find ways to bring back order.
As a teacher, he wouldn't answer philosophical questions because he wanted people to think hard, learn from others and history.
He also thought the people power should earn their position by being good and capable, not because they came from powerful families.
His ideas would later be known as Confucianism. This would become the basic philosophy of China for over two thousand years.
According ducksters.com, these are some of the basic principals of Confucianism.
Treat others kindly
Have good manners and follow daily rituals
A man should have good morals and ethics
Family was important and ancestors were to be respected
A true man had the qualities of integrity, righteousness, altruism, goodness, and loyalty
One should practice moderation in all things
He believed in a strong and organized central government
It also listed some quotes from Confucius. Here are a couple that I liked:
To study and not think is a waste. To think and not study is dangerous.
If you see what is right and fail to act on it, you lack courage.
