Forensic Linguistics

Linguistics is the study of language. Forensic linguistics is the study of language to solve a crime.

This article calls forensic linguists "word cops." It talks about how people analyzed words to figure out anonymous writers. It also said you can tell a lot about the writer just from how they write. They look at things like grammar, punctuation, and the types of words they use. By looking at those things, forensic linguists can figure out things about the writer like if they are male or female, how old they are and how educated they are.

This website had a cool exercise that had you compare two sets of texts and you had to find all the different reasons why you think the texts were written by different people.

So I tried to use some of these ideas to figure out who has been bothering us on Roblox.

The mystery person on Roblox knew all of our names. That makes me think he is someone from our school. This person claimed to be our friend "N." But this mystery person uses a lot of shortcut words like LOL. "N" wouldn't use that. He'd usually say "ha ha." The mystery person also picked on two of us specifically. "N" doesn't really interact with those two people so that didn't make sense. The mystery person also used a swear word at some of us. Of all the people who have access to my private server, there's only one person I think would say that to someone. But I don't have enough evidence to say that it is him yet.

I'm going to keep working on this.
