This week is Free Speech Week. According to FreeSpeechWeek.org, the purpose of the week is "to raise public awareness of the importance of freedom of speech and of the press in our democracy- and to celebrate that freedom."

The website gives some links to lessons about free speech. I clicked on this link titled First Things First: Using the Newspaper to Teach the Freedoms of the First Amendment. I always thought the First Amendment was just Freedom of Speech. But I learned that the First Amendment is actually about five freedoms.
Freedom of Religion
Freedom of Speech
Freedom of the Press
Freedom of Assembly
Right to Petition
Today specifically is Community Media Day. According to CommunityMediaDay.org, "Community Media Day is an annual celebration of voices that bring awareness to the importance of free speech and accessible media for all individuals to have their voices heard." According to encyclopedia.com, Community Media gives everyday people access to tools to broadcast their message.
Our community media organization here on Oahu is Olelo Community Media. My dad used to work for them. They show neighborhood board meetings, public events, and other educational shows. My dad used to help teach people how to use video equipment and he would also help shoot events.
