Gachapon

Writer's picture: PaigePaige

Needed another fun topic to make me feel better. So today, I'm writing about gachapon.

Gachapon are these Japanese machines that you put coins in and you get an egg with a cool toy. According to this website, "gacha gacha" is the sound that the machine makes when you turn the knob for your prize.

You can find them in a lot of places in Tokyo like in arcades, stores and restaurants. I found this video that gives an explanation.

Here in Hawaii, I mostly see it at Shirokiya at Ala Moana. There's a whole section of them. I usually go there with my cousin when she visits during the New Year. My aunty gives us a bunch of coins and we choose what we want. Even though there are a lot of machines, a lot of them are just repeats. I usually get a miniature figure, sticker or maybe a car.

I found video that shows some cool and weird things you can find in Japan's gachapon machines.
