Honesty Day

The quick reason today is Honesty Day is because it's the last day of April, the opposite of April 1st which is April Fool's Day.

Wikipedia has a longer explanation that got kinda complicated. An interesting fact I learned from Wikipedia was that London's Science Museum did a poll and found that the average lie for a British man was "I don't drink that much!" and for women it was "Nothing's wrong, I'm fine."

We found another article that also explained Honesty Day but it also included some really good quotations about honesty. My favorite was by John Lennon that said, "Being honest may not get you a lot of friends but it'll always get you the right ones."

We then found a website called Good News Network and it had a collection of stories about people being honest. Here are a few that we read.

Two bonsai trees were stolen from this museum. The bonsai were 70 years old. One of the tree was grown during World War 2 in a Japanese-American internment camp. I thought this was really sad. I recently read a book about the internment camp called Journey to Topaz. After the museum posted about the missing trees on social media and asked for everyone's help, the trees were returned a few days later. I'm glad someone was honest enough to bring them back.

This was a nice story. A man in England knew he was being sold a stolen bike. It was a really expensive bike but the men trying to sell the bike we selling it for a really cheap price and a lock was still one it. The man bought the bike just so he could try and find its real owner. He eventually found the owner and when the owner tried to repay the man, he didn't take the money. He said it didn't feel right to take money from someone who's house was just burglarized.

This last one was about a girl who felt bad that she had taken a rock from a park and mailed it back. This reminded me of how people mail back lava rocks to the Big Island. I'm not sure if those people are trying to be honest or just scared of the bad luck that follows them for making Pele mad.
