So as a review, we looked up what a haiku is. A basic rule is that it has a 5-7-5 syllable format. But this website talks about more qualities that traditional haiku's have.

My mom also taught me a haiku she learned from her dad that's supposed to be a famous haiku.
古池や
蛙飛びこむ
水の音
-----------------
furu ike ya
kawazu tobikomu
mizu no oto
------------------
Old pond
Frog jumps in
Sound of water
I think Ms. Carr read something like this one to us.
I had never heard of Haiku Day so we looked on the internet to see if people actually celebrated it.
We were surprised to find that NASCAR celebrated it.

I don't watch NASCAR so most of the haikus didn't make sense to me. But this one was kinda funny.

We also found a poet in Connecticut who is doing a haiku hunt. They put haiku poems on different places around town for people to find and to encourage people to go outside but still keep their distance.

A lot of places are using haiku to talk about how everyone is dealing with the coronavirus.
University students wrote about how they're spending their time.

The Smithsonian had an article about an artist who is collecting people recording their haikus about social distancing. Unfortunately his deadline was the 16th.

An NPR podcast was also collecting social distancing haikus.

Looking through at Twitter using their #SocialDistancingHaiku hashtag we found this sad haiku.

Just so we don't end on a sad one, here's a nice one.

I think that's it. My fingers are tired of counting the syllables.
