Today is Mascot Day. According to the dictionary, a mascot is a person, animal, or object that symbolizes something and gives a group good luck.

Manoa School's mascot is a tiger. I don’t really think it matches because we don’t have tigers here. When my mom went to Manoa School their mascot was a frog. She said that their mascot was a frog because we have lots of frogs in Manoa.
A lot of colleges and professional sports teams have people dressed up as their mascots. I found this article that talked about things people should and shouldn't do when they're a mascot.
One of the things it said you should do if you're a mascot performer is always "stay in character." What that means is that you would have to make sure you always have the personality your mascot is supposed to have while in costume. I think that would be really hard.
From this article I learned that being a mascot can be really fun. You get to go to the best games, hang out with the players and for the most part everybody loves you. But it also sounds hard. A lot of times mascots do stunts so you could get hurt. It's also really hot in the costume and it's hard to do your job if nobody comes to the games.
I found a video on YouTube about a whole series that talked about being a mascot.
What I liked about the video is that they showed multiple mascot artists and that they all said they enjoy doing it. They took their jobs really seriously.
I found a list of the Top 10 Most Successful Brand Mascots of All Time. Hadn't really thought of those characters as mascots.
I didn’t know Nestlé had a bunny as a mascot. My favorites from the list were The Aflac Duck (I think he's funny), Kool-Aid Man (he looks friendly and I like Kool-Aid), Tony the Tiger (I like tigers), and Mr. Peanut (I like peanuts). I think these mascots do a really good job of helping me remember the product.
I've always wondered about the choice of a tiger for Manoa School's mascot! Maybe some day it will change again... the Manoa Mano would be cool! Or the Manoa Mongoose!! Ha ha ha. I had a good friend in college who was The Fordham Ram. He was so good at his job, and everyone loved him so much! One of my favorite current mascots is the Geico gecko :)
