National Creativity Day

Writer's picture: PaigePaige

It's actually tomorrow, May 30 but Ms. Carr listed it for today. It's the last Reason to Celebrate on our 4th grade calendar. So this is what I would like to show for National Creativity Day.

This is the envelope I made for the card I gave to Ms. Carr. I figured out how to fold a piece of paper to make an envelope. Then I drew a Manoa School Tiger on it.

This is the card.

It's a 3-D card. The Thank You part pops up when you open it.

I also made her a mini book that she can use to write little notes. This is the cover. I drew a surfboard because she likes to surf.

I drew Manoa Valley on the back cover so she can remember Manoa and us when she moves to Molokai.

I even wrote on the spine. It was kinda hard to write on. I hope she can read it.

I put this in with the books I returned to the school today. I hope she gets it. I was sad to say to goodbye but at least I got to see Ms. Carr one last time even if it was just from my car.

Here are some really cool creative people I found online today.

We found this article about how a guy took pictures with action figures to make it look like he was interacting with them.

The article says it's called forced perspective. I learned about perspective in art class. It's how things look bigger when they are closer to you. We tried to do this with some hot wheels, Lego minifigs and this doll house. We couldn't get it right. It was a lot harder than we thought it would be. We'll try this one again later.

Continuing from yesterday's National Airplane Day we found this video about The Paper Airplane Guy.

He showed how to make five really neat paper airplanes so I had to try it. I did the first Boomerang Plane and the Bat Plane. They flew pretty well but didn't do what they were supposed to. The Boomerang Plane didn't come back and the Bat Plane didn't flap it's wings. The planes did manage to attack my mom and my brother hitting them in the head or back. Ooops! I'm going to have to work on these.

I did a blog earlier about The Getty Museum's art challenge. Here are more paintings people recreated at home that I thought were really good.

This person did a really great job recreating the Kabuki painting.

I don't like the original painting but I love the one with the cat!

I think this one is so funny and creative!

Since I've been using Legos a lot lately I loved the way he used minifigs.

I also thought this one of the swan was super creative.

I haven't tried one of these yet. Will have to do one before summer is over.

Paige, you're so amazing as a freshly minted 5th grader... That's what you are now! Once again, I love your latest post. I got all of the beautiful and extremely creative mementos you made for me, and they are treasures. I'm particularly grateful for the back story! That's so important. Also-- I have a kabuki painting that is just like the scary one you posted!! It scares me too. You're so creative. And amazing. Amazing Paige :)
