Today is National French Fry Day. According to NationToday.com, Americans eat about 20 to 30 pounds of french fries a year. I think I probably eat more than that.

NationalToday.com surveyed 1,000 Americans and found that 35% said McDonald's makes the best french fries. I agree. For me, Wendys comes in second and Burger King third.

CNN said that restaurants were giving away free french fries today. McDonald's was one of them. I'm bummed I missed it.

This website called The Daily Meal had a list of cool facts about french fries.

  • French fries might not be French. Belgium and Spain also say they invented it.

  • Seven percent of potatoes grown in the U.S. become McDonald's french fries

  • French fries aren't completely unhealthy. Since they're made out of potatoes it has vitamin B6, vitamin C, magnesium and iron.

A website called Food Republic had a neat infographic of 18 french fry styles. They ranked them based on a poll they took. I don't agree with the ranking. Here's a look at the top six. I've never even heard of waffles fries.
