According to Checkiday.com, 25 nations met at the International Meridian Conference in Washington, D.C. on November 1, 1884. They met to agree on the official line of 0 degrees longitude to set up standard time zones around the world.

Twenty-two of the 25 nations agreed to have 0 degrees longitude run through Greenwich, England. This is the Prime Meridian. It runs through the Royal Greenwich Observatory.
If you get to visit the observatory, you can stand right on the line.

If you have one foot on one side and your other on the other side of the line, you'll be standing in both the eastern and western hemispheres at the same time.
