On September 11, 2001, four airplanes were hijacked. One crashed in Pennsylvania, killing all 40 people on board. Another plane crashed into the Pentagon in Washington D.C., killing 184 people. Two planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York, killing 2,753 people.
Every year, memorials are held to honor those who died. This year, because of the coronavirus pandemic, ceremonies were a little different. At the World Trade Center, they usually have families reading the names of their relatives who died in the attack. This year the names were recorded and played over a loudspeaker so everyone could practice social distancing. CNN had a story about how September 11 was remembered today.

I found a website for the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York. It had an interactive video tour of the museum.

On the website, I also read about the Tribute in Light which is a public art display that has two twin beams of light that shine on September 11.
The lights honor those who were killed and also "celebrates the unbreakable spirit of New York."
The beams of light can be seen from a 4 mile radius around lower Manhattan.
Another thing I learned on the website is that the museum has something called a birthday roses program. They keep track of every victim's birthday and place a white rose on their name at the memorial on their birthday. It's a way to honor them and recognize that they were just like us.
