If this was a normal summer, I probably would have already gone to at least 2 or 3 bon dances by now. I like dressing up in a kimono, participating in the children's lantern ceremony, eating good food and dancing. I like that it's like a party that you can celebrate with your relatives who have passed away.

I'm really sad I'm not going to be able to do that this year. In today's newspaper, we saw that some hongwanji's had virtual bon dances.
The article said Moiliili Hongwanji Mission had a virtual bon dance on July 4. People could have pre-ordered bentos and then watched the some of their members performing some of the dances, as well as videos from previous bon dances. I like the Moiliili Bon Dance because it's so big. There are a lot of activity booths and food trucks there.
Here's the link to the video.
Other places also had virtual bon dances. This one is from Ewa Hongwanji. The first half is of the obon service. The second half shows a previous bon dance. I've never been to this one.
I really liked this one from Puna Hongwanji. It was cool how they virtually included people from home and even on Oahu. I liked the cartoon in the middle that explained how bon dances might have started.
