Today is World Cerebral Palsy Day.

My aunty has cerebral palsy. I didn't really know that that's what she had. I just knew that she can't walk and uses a wheelchair that I used get to ride on the back. I learned a little more about what it is after looking up World Cerebral Palsy Day.
According the World Cerebral Palsy Day website, cerebral palsy is a physical disability that affects movement and posture. It can be mild for some people and severe for others. My aunty is mild I think. Looking at the infographic she would be a Gross Motor Function Classification System Level III. I think cerebral palsy mostly affects her legs. I think my friend Jocelyn is a Level V and she has a hard time communicating.

My mom said that when they were younger and visited their grandma in Okinawa, it was hard to get around because a lot of places didn't have sidewalks that could let a wheelchair go through. Japan didn't make things like ramps for handicap people. She says it's better now. But there are still places even in Hawaii where it's hard for my aunty to get around. That's why my grandma always goes out with her. Sometime the sidewalks are all cracked and her wheelchair will get stuck so my grandma has to help.
