World UFO Day

Some people celebrate World UFO Day today.

According to this article, on June 24, 1947 Kenneth Arnold reported what is considered the first UFO sighting in the United States. He described what he saw as looking like saucers. That's why a lot drawings of UFOs look like flying saucers. This article from History.com talks about what he saw, as well as other famous UFO sightings.

Some people celebrate World UFO Day on July 2, in honor of another famous UFO sighting in Roswell, New Mexico. In July 1947, a rancher found mysterious wreckage on his ranch. It was a military weather balloon but people thought the military was lying and trying to hide an actual alien spaceship.

Livescience.com had an interesting article about the most common things people mistake as UFOs. Balloons were on the list, along with lightning, weird cloud formations and airplanes.

Space.com had an article that ranked the states least likely and most likely to see UFOs. The link to the full report showed that Hawaii was #8 on the list of states with the most UFO sightings. Should we be worried?!?!?! :-)
